New sleep guidelines for adults issued
The Danish Health Authority has issued sleep duration recommendations for adults for the first time, advising 7-9 hours for those aged 18-64 and 7-8 hours for people aged 65 and over. Due to societal structures, individuals often sleep less to achieve goals or to not miss out on screen time. The guidance highlights the importance of sleep for health and well-being. The recommendations are informed by the American National Sleep Foundation and the Vidensråd for Forebyggelse’s report on sleep and health. Recent data indicates adults average 7 hours and 12 minutes of sleep, often at the lower end of the suggested range, indicating a need for more sleep.
