Bæredygtigt Landbrug Elects New Chair
Peter Kiær has stepped down as chairman of the farmers’ interest organization Bæredygtigt Landbrug, with former vice-chairman Niels Hauge Mikkelsen taking over. Kiær’s departure was announced during a general assembly on Wednesday, ending his leadership since 2021 and 13 years as a board member. The organization, founded in 2010, currently has approximately 2500 members compared to the 22,000 members of Danish Agriculture and Food Council. During the height of the debate on a CO2 tax on agriculture in early 2024, the organization faced criticism for members’ statements at a general assembly. The organization opposes a CO2 tax on agriculture, which is being implemented as part of a green tripartite agreement. Bæredygtigt Landbrug has been known for its activist approach since its inception, sharply criticizing excessive environmental regulation and entities advocating for restrictions on agricultural production.
