Lynetteholm project continues amid lawsuit

The Eastern High Court of Denmark ruled on Friday that construction work on the artificial island Lynetteholmen can continue during ongoing legal proceedings. The work on the island, intended to house 35,000 residents near Copenhagen, is under scrutiny in a case deemed principal by the court. Klimabevægelsen in Denmark, the plaintiffs, argue that the construction in Øresund may obstruct saltwater flow to the Baltic Sea, impacting ecosystems. They claim insufficient consultation with neighboring countries. However, the court found no violation of international consultation regulations that would render Lynetteholmen’s construction act invalid, thus not granting the lawsuit suspensive effect. Environmental reports and evidence of communication with authorities in Sweden and other Baltic Sea countries have been presented. Construction continues as the legal process unfolds, and Transport Minister Thomas Danielsen emphasizes the thorough examination of the project and the legal right for cases to be brought to court.
