Mette Frederiksen attends NATO meet on sea security

Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is traveling to a selective NATO summit in Helsinki, held by the Finnish government alongside Estonia, to discuss the security of critical infrastructure on the Baltic Sea’s seabed after recent sabotage incidents. Scheduled for January 14th, the agenda includes the enhancement of NATO’s presence in the Baltics and measures against the threat from Russia’s shadow fleet. The Finnish authorities suspect intentional sabotage by a ship, Eagle S, which caused damage to underwater cables and is believed to be part of Russia’s shadow fleet used to bypass sanctions by not sailing under the Russian flag. The summit will also focus on a Chinese ship, Yi Peng 3, suspected of causing cable damage in the Baltic Sea.
