Group emphasizes daylight saving debate in EU
With the daylight saving time, where Denmark moves the clock forward, Landsforeningen mod sommertid, led by Jørgen Bak, continues to advocate for the abolition of daylight saving time in favor of standard time, also known as winter time. As the EU elections near in June, the association aims to make this a major debate topic. Despite a 2019 decision by the European Parliament for EU countries to choose a permanent time by April 2020 and to stop the biannual clock changes by 2021, the time shifts persist. Some EU countries prefer daylight saving time, but in Denmark, there’s a tendency towards permanent standard time due to darker winter mornings. Sleep researcher Birgitte Rahbek Kornum confirmed that losing an hour’s sleep affects health, but advised not to worry over missing an hour once, as the body typically adjusts to jetlag in about a day per hour difference.
