Aviation backs green fuel production in Aalborg

Major players in the Danish aviation industry, including Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), SAS, Copenhagen Airport, and Aalborg Airport, have agreed to support green aviation fuel production in Aalborg. Set to be completed in 2029, the facility aims to produce 110 million liters of sustainable fuel annually, contributing to the needs of domestic and international flights requiring 30 million and 1200 million liters respectively. The plant will feature a 400 MW electrolysis unit converting power from renewable sources into hydrogen, which will be transformed into aviation fuel in combination with captured CO2. Green Power Denmark calls for political action to support the market for green aviation fuel, citing costs considerably higher than those for fossil fuels. The project will also provide local benefits including utilizing excess heat to account for at least ten percent of Aalborg’s heating consumption and generating 2000 jobs during construction with 200 permanent positions once operational.
