US Defense Secretary questioned on Greenland invasion

During a congressional hearing, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was questioned about plans for invading Greenland and Panama. Democrat Adam Smith pressed Hegseth for clarity on whether the Pentagon had plans to take these regions by force if necessary. Hegseth responded that the Department of Defense’s job is to have plans ready for any eventuality, without specifically confirming plans for such actions. Republican Congressman Mike Turner later sought to clarify Hegseth’s statements, emphasizing that Hegseth did not confirm the existence of plans to invade Greenland. Hegseth stated that the U.S. looks forward to collaborating with Greenland to protect it against potential threats. Previously, President Donald Trump suggested interest in acquiring Greenland but did not rule out the use of force.
