Alarm companies charged illegal fees
Alarm companies G4S and Verisure unlawfully charged a 1,200 DKK fee for cancelling subscriptions, violating consumer contract laws. G4S named it an administration fee, while Verisure called it a dismantling fee. The Consumer Ombudsman intervened, leading to the cessation of these charges. Impacted customers are entitled to refunds. Both companies also raised subscription prices without proper notice, thus customers should not pay beyond the original agreement. According to Consumer Ombudsman Torben Jensen, these rules protect consumers and cannot be disregarded. While G4S is willing to refund customers, Verisure believes it’s in the right and won’t provide refunds. Customers who feel overcharged should first contact their alarm company, or as a last resort, appeal to the Consumer Complaints Board.
