China respects Danish sovereignty in Greenland
China fully respects Denmark’s sovereignty and territorial integrity concerning Greenland, as stated by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. This assurance follows pressure on Greenland and Denmark from US President Donald Trump. Concurrently, China hopes Denmark will support its stance on sovereignty and territorial matters. Denmark upholds a “one-China policy” and does not recognize Taiwan as independent. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen called for restraint in the Taiwan Strait and criticized China’s support of Russia’s war in Ukraine. Recent tensions rose after a Taiwanese ex-president’s unofficial Denmark visit, deemed a rejection of the “one-China principle” by China. Both nations agree on protecting multilateralism and free trade, highlighting Denmark’s interest in strategic relations with China during the visit marking 75 years of diplomatic ties.
