Slight uptick in interest for home buying
While the arrival of spring usually energizes potential homebuyers, this year has proven more challenging. In March, there was a modest increase in the interest to purchase new homes, with banks’ data from Finans Danmark showing a 16% rise in loan offers over the previous month, totaling 2371 for owner-occupied homes and summerhouses. Despite this, interest remains at a generally low level. The sluggishness may be attributed to higher mortgage rates and property prices compared to recent years, as well as increased property taxes in some regions with the new tax system implemented at the beginning of the year. Particularly Copenhagen and its surrounding municipalities have seen a significant 43% drop in loan offers year-on-year, likely impacted by the intended effects of the new tax system.
