Dan Jørgensen nominated for EU Commissioner
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen nominates Development Minister Dan Jørgensen as Denmark’s candidate for the role of EU Commissioner. Jørgensen, with extensive political experience including years in the Folketing, multiple ministerial roles, and two terms in the European Parliament, must undergo a hearing in the EU Parliament before confirmation. His experience in EU and UN roles, especially in international climate negotiations, is emphasized. Despite criticism for potentially late nomination affecting Denmark’s influence, Frederiksen expects a key portfolio based on discussions with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Denmark, having a long history with a female commissioner, will only nominate Jørgensen, adhering to its right of decision under EU treaty.
