Prison demanded for civil servants in animal cruelty case
The public prosecution authority demands prison sentences for two state employees involved in a case of mistreatment of state-owned cattle at Mols Bjerge. According to the East Jutland Police, 77 animals have been exposed to improper treatment, with several instances qualifying as animal cruelty. The accused are a manager responsible for operations and a leading employee, both of whom could face a ban from owning or caring for animals. An incident report from Kvægdyrlægerne Djursland in 2021 detailed dire conditions where cattle starved or attempted to eat tree bark out of desperation. While the two employees may face imprisonment and loss of animal-related rights, a fine is proposed for the Nature Management Authority.
