Royal House confronts new deficit

Denmark’s Royal House reported a deficit of over one million kroner for 2023, with the annual statement citing numerous activities and high prices as reasons. Despite reducing energy costs by 40%, insurance and consulting fees increased. Personnel costs were the largest expense, accounting for 60% of the total. Queen Margrethe’s state allowance included a reserve for clothing and furnishings amounting to nearly 12 million kroner. Princess Benedikte and Prince Joachim received 1.3 and nearly four million kroner respectively. Following the recent succession, legislative changes concerning royal allowances will be discussed on April 19, and a gift list will be published in the next annual report.
