Attorney resigns from Nordic Waste bankruptcy

John Sommer Schmidt has resigned as the trustee of the bankrupt Nordic Waste, according to his law firm Gorrissen Federspiel. The resignation follows a petition by co-trustee Boris Frederiksen requesting his removal over concerns of Schmidt’s potential conflicts of interest, which Schmidt’s firm denies. The situation escalated after DR reported that Gorrissen Federspiel allegedly sold hard drives containing company data without securing the recordings. Kammeradvokaten subsequently repurchased the hard drives. Nordic Waste’s bankruptcy, following a contaminated soil landslide near Randers, may lead to a 300 million Danish kroner cleanup bill for Randers Municipality. Frederiksen welcomed Schmidt’s resignation, suggesting he should not have accepted the trustee position. Both their firms are among Denmark’s top five law firms.
