Danish party leader proposes emergency ministry

Søren Pape Poulsen, the leader of the Conservative party in Denmark, has suggested the establishment of a dedicated emergency preparedness ministry in response to an aggressive Russia and concerns that Ukraine may not be the final target of Russian warfare. He suggests Denmark should consider following the example of Sweden, which has a minister for civil defense urging citizens to be ready with essential supplies. The proposed ministry would guide citizens on what to do in case of physical or digital attacks on infrastructure, supply chains, and vital welfare institutions. While military and defense are frequently discussed with the war in Ukraine, Pape stresses the importance of discussing preparedness, which has been sidelined. Despite suggestions that existing agencies could handle this through information campaigns, Pape insists that without elevation to the highest political level, the necessary focus on preparedness will not be achieved.
