Long wait times persist at court despite extra funds
Despite receiving a ‘historic boost’ in funding, the Østre Landsret still faces long case processing times. Carsten Kristian Vollmer, the court’s president, states that they continue to receive more cases than they can handle, and wait times have not improved. Average waiting times for civil and jury trial criminal cases remain around 13 months since last summer. The High Court criticized the lengthy waits, leading to hastened handling of a rape case. The court attempts to confirm serious appeals intent and refine case preparations, which could save time in courtrooms. Vollmer will lead a committee that indirectly addresses case processing times, stating the need for more calendar time to reduce waits, but emphasizing that there are no quick fixes.
