Biden slams Trump’s NATO remarks as foolish
U.S. President Joe Biden strongly criticizes his immediate predecessor, Donald Trump, for his ‘stupid’ and ‘shameful’ threats about NATO. In response to Trump’s suggestion that the U.S. should only assist NATO members who have paid their contributions in case of a Russian attack, Biden called the remarks dangerous, shameful, un-American, and beneficial to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Biden underscores the importance of supporting Ukraine financially, stressing that American security was already at stake before the Senate passed the significant aid package, which includes $60 billion for Ukraine out of a $95 billion total also aimed at Israel and Taiwan. Trump’s stance could risk the package being defeated in the House of Representatives where Republicans, encouraged by Trump, hold the majority. Biden warns that failing to support Ukraine now will be remembered harshly by history.
