Compensation for 122 wrongful amputations

In Denmark, 1 in 4 patients who complained about leg amputations have been granted compensation, reports Jyllands-Posten. Of 627 cases, the Patient Compensation agency concluded 122 amputations may have been avoided with proper care. In all, 106 patients received 40.7 million kroner. This approval rate surpasses other complex cases like breast cancer surgery and COVID-19 issues. The majority of successful claims are from the Central Denmark Region and Zealand Region. Investigations began in 2022 in these regions, uncovering patients who could have avoided amputation with adequate vascular surgical intervention, resulting in directives for them to seek compensation.
