Researchers halted in IUD study in Greenland
A group of researchers investigating the IUD practices in Greenland from 1960-1991 has encountered access issues with health service materials and paused their work. They had obtained permission in September 2023 and February 2024 to use the health service’s records but faced a setback when permissions were withdrawn on May 20, 2024, due to doubts about access conditions. Subsequently, a revised application was rejected on June 12. The challenges have caused a delay in the group’s investigation, pushing the report’s delivery to September 1, 2025. The inquiry’s slowdown is also due to the large number of witness statements and unexpected administrative burdens. As of June 1, the group collected 196 oral and 140 written testimonies, aiming to continue gathering information until October 1. Over 350 accounts from women and professionals have been recorded so far.
