Three men convicted for threats against prime minister

On Wednesday, the Eastern High Court sentenced three men to 40 days in prison for hanging a dummy with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen’s face during a protest against COVID-19 restrictions in January 2021. This verdict overturns their acquittal from the Frederiksberg Court in the fall of 2022. Originally arrested for high treason, they were later charged with threatening a public official when the treason charge was deemed excessive. The prosecution sought a three-month sentence, but was satisfied with the eventual conviction. Although the convicts – two tattoo artists and a scaffolder – won’t serve prison time as they’ve already spent eight weeks in custody. They are considering whether to seek permission to take the case to the Supreme Court.
