Tax relief for working youth

Danish Parliament supports increasing the cap on earnings for young part-time workers and simplifying employment. Employment Minister Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen aims to update the 30-year-old rules on youth employment. The number of young part-time workers has decreased since the 1980s. Under the new rules, workers under 18 will not pay the 8% labor market contribution, increasing their yearly take-home pay. Additionally, young people from 15 to 17 can now work longer hours across all sectors and handle mild chemicals and certain machinery. The changes will be assessed in the latter half of 2026, focusing on the psychological work environment for youth. These reforms, which align with broad political support and social partners, are designed to better prepare young people for adulthood.
