Danish Crown issued urgent directive after fatality

Danish Crown received an immediate directive following a fatal accident involving a cleaning assistant at the company’s Holsted slaughterhouse on Tuesday evening. The working inspection authority, following its visit after the incident, mandated that the use of lifting/lowering platforms must be completely safe. The 54-year-old cleaning assistant was crushed to death between two of these platforms. The lifting/lowering platforms are used by Danish Crown during the pig slaughter process, and employees operate the individual platforms from within them. The distance between the two platforms was about ten centimeters, posing a pinch hazard. The working inspection highlighted that usage instructions were not easily accessible to workers during the inspection night. The authorities are yet to decide if further action is required. The incident was reported to the South and Southern Jutland Police at 20:12 on Tuesday. The cleaning assistant was pronounced dead at the scene and was from the Grindsted area, aged 54.
