Denmark to grant asylum to Gaza applicants
The Refugee Appeals Board of Denmark has determined that conditions in Gaza involve such forms of extreme violence that applicants face a real risk of abuse contrary to Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights. This has established grounds for granting residence permits under Danish immigration law to applicants from Gaza. Statelessness Palestinians from Gaza who have received protection or assistance from UNRWA will generally be issued a residence permit. Four cases concerning applicants from Gaza currently at the Refugee Appeals Board have been granted asylum. The ongoing war in Gaza, which escalated when Hamas entered Israel on October 7, 2023, has resulted in over 30,000 deaths and numerous hostages, half of which have been released with the status of the remaining uncertain.
