Child labor in asbestos scandal
Six vulnerable children aged 12 to 16 had illegally worked with asbestos for LM Multiservices, with at least three directly handling the harmful material. Mayor Karina Vincentz confirmed their involvement and suggested the others might have done similar work. Paid in cash and electronics, the kids also worked nights. The situation in Odsherred Kommune emerged two weeks ago, leading to interventions with the children. In a recent case, two teens removed asbestos-containing materials, deemed life-threatening by authorities. After inspections in September, the company received 14 injunctions for illegal underage labor and unsafe practices. The owners claimed ignorance of the material’s dangers and the minors’ ages, deflecting legal responsibility onto another firm. Asbestos exposure is linked to serious diseases such as asbestosis and lung cancer.
