Top Hamas leader assassinated in Tehran

The top leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, has been killed in Tehran, as stated by the militant Palestinian group in a statement reported by Reuters. In the incident, one of Haniyeh’s bodyguards was also killed. Hamas mourns their leader’s death, accusing a ‘treacherous Zionist attack’ on his residence in Tehran for the assassination; however, no one has claimed responsibility yet. The exact circumstances surrounding the assassination remain unclear. Ismail Haniyeh served as the head of Hamas’ political bureau, its central decision-making body. His death has been reported by Iranian state media and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which confirmed the attack on his residence that led to his and his bodyguard’s martyrdom. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has announced that they are investigating the murder and will soon disclose the ’cause’ according to Reuters.
