Trump convicted in hush money case

A New York jury has convicted former U.S. President Donald Trump on all 34 charges in a criminal case, according to Reuters and AFP, marking him as the first ex-president to be found guilty in a criminal trial. The charges relate to falsifying documents to conceal a $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election, meant to prevent her from discussing an alleged affair with Trump in 2006. Trump maintains his innocence, declaring himself ‘a very innocent man,’ and plans to appeal, as reported by Reuters. Though convicted, this verdict does not bar Trump from running in the upcoming November 5 presidential election. Trump is involved in four different criminal cases; however, this is the only one expected to be resolved before the election. His sentencing is set for July 11, with a possible maximum of four years’ imprisonment.
