Union on frigate case: World must gape at Denmark

Jesper Korsgaard Hansen, chairperson of Denmark’s largest military union, Centralforeningen for Stampersonel (CS), highlights the need for serious consideration of the recent crisis events in the military, particularly after the suspension of Defence Chief Flemming Lentfer. Hansen stresses the urgent need to restore trust and warns that continuous turmoil could damage Denmark’s international reputation, referencing the drone attack on the frigate ‘Iver Huitfeldt’ which led to crucial systems failures and defective ammunition. The case has caused confusion in Parliament, with an initial internal report clearing the military of any fault, followed by an updated one presenting conflicting information. A comprehensive report is expected next week. Hansen urges for a collective effort to move forward and focus on the thousands in the military who have important roles, whose efforts are overshadowed by such incidents.
