Teen girl sentenced for praising Hamas attack

A 16-year-old girl from Aalborg has been sentenced to 30 days of probation for glorifying a Hamas attack against Israel in a Facebook comment. On the day of the attack, October 7, 2023, she commented ‘Yass’ accompanied by heart-eyed and Palestinian flag emojis on a news post. The defendant argued she did not know Hamas was responsible, intending only to support Palestinian civilians. Courts have deemed the attack a terror strike, and Hamas is listed as a terror organization by the EU since 2022. The prosecutor sought a minimum four-month sentence, while her attorney demanded acquittal. With a split verdict among the judge and lay judges, the majority ruled for conviction. She has two weeks to consider an appeal. There have been several trials after Hamas’ attack, with a mix of convictions and acquittals.
