Lars Boje launches ‘Citizens’ Party’

Member of Parliament Lars Boje Mathiesen has founded a new political party named ‘Citizens’ Party- Lars Boje Mathiesen,’ which has been approved by the Electoral Committee. The party aims to reduce the number of employees in central administration and leadership within the state, questioning the need for over 15,000 additional personnel costing more than nine billion kroner. Boje was ousted as chairman from the New Conservatives and has since considered establishing his own party. The ‘Citizens’ Party’ advocates for more public referendums, establishment of a constitutional court, and a simplification of car taxation, proposing a flat annual fee per license plate. The party has not yet decided on a prime ministerial candidate, but has ruled out current PM Mette Frederiksen, referencing her handling of the mink crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic.
