Denmark’s Tyra field back in gas production
The Tyra gas field in the North Sea has resumed production after extensive renovation by TotalEnergies. According to the company the upgrade makes the field one of the most technologically advanced offshore gas installations globally, set to operate more efficiently with 30% less greenhouse gas emissions. Denmark moves towards natural gas self-sufficiency, with production expected to reach full capacity in four months, ultimately contributing to a 0.5% increase in GDP annually and lessening reliance on Russian gas. The reopening enhances market stability for Denmark and neighboring countries amidst uncertainties due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. TotalEnergies operates Tyra for the Danish Underground Consortium, co-owned by BlueNord, Nordsøfonden, and the state. Discovered by Maersk in 1968 and situated 225 kilometers west of Esbjerg, the field’s restart is deemed significant for national and European energy robustness by officials, including Climate and Energy Minister Lars Aagaard.
