Circus director on illegal labor: ‘We treated them well’
The prosecution demands a 2.7 million kroner fine against Cirkus Arena and its director Benny Berdino-Olsen for employing nine Georgian workers without work permits. Berdino-Olsen admits a lack of attention to the workers’ origin but insists there was no intentional wrongdoing and that employees received fair pay and treatment. The workers were detained at Copenhagen Airport, with the subsequent investigation leading to the circus company and its director being charged for breaking immigration laws, with allegations of intentional employment of illegal labor for economic gains. The director has hired a lawyer knowledgeable in the legislation for the case, which is set for trial in Copenhagen City Court in April 2026.
