Special ed in Aarhus schools faces DKK110m deficit

Aarhus is projected to have a 110 million kroner deficit in special education funding by year’s end. The city spends less on special education than most Danish municipalities and may need to divert funds meant for mainstream support, risking the neglect of preventative measures in general education. Councilor Thomas Medom warns that without a significant financial infusion, the number of distressed children might rise, and families may increasingly abandon the public school system, deeming it insufficient. He urges prioritizing children’s education over large-scale projects and expects funds from the government’s financial deal with municipalities.
