Hundreds report water damage after heavy rain
Following intense rainfall, particularly across a swath from the Wadden Sea to Djursland, over 400 residents have reported water damage to basements and through roofs. Denmark’s largest insurance company, Tryg, has registered 148 weather-related damages, mostly in Esbjerg, Fredericia, Kolding, and Vejle. Alm. Brand received 160 notifications, and Topdanmark had 125 by Saturday. Alm. Brand had 70 urgent calls for assistance on Friday, while Topdanmark responded 30 times. Some areas received 30 to 70 millimeters of rain, with Esbjerg recording over 100 millimeters, marking it the highest single-day rainfall since 1874. The exact number of expected claims is still uncertain, but insurers predict more across the coming week. They recommend immediate removal of water and document damages to prevent further loss.
