Renovations Increased Fire Risk at Børsen

The historic Børsen building has been at increased fire risk due to ongoing renovations, potentially contributing to a recent significant blaze, suggests Jens Kastvig, fire consultant with Copenhagen Fire Engineering. Increased risk arises as construction work may involve covering smoke alarms to prevent false alerts and removing fire doors, which are not mandated during building. Scaffolding around the building hampers firefighting efforts, complicating access to the façade. The fire started midway up the building near the spire, spreading towards the side facing Christiansborg. Fire regrowth may occur if walls or floors fail. Firefighters are attempting to contain the fire by establishing barriers within the building, a difficult task due to its old architecture with numerous voids and wooden structures.
