13,000 more property owners to benefit from tax breaks

Approximately 13,000 additional rural properties in Denmark are set to be assessed and taxed as agricultural lands under a new government model, resulting in more favorable tax conditions, according to the Tax Ministry. The government has received support from agricultural and environmental organizations, but not yet from the Danish parliament. Skatteminister Jeppe Bruus stated they aim to simplify the tax model for forest, nature, and agricultural properties, making it straightforward for homeowners. The adoption of this model, which would total 128,000 properties, is also intended to incentivize the transformation of farmland into nature and forest areas without negative tax implications. Last year, 15,000 rural properties faced increased taxes due to revaluation but were granted temporary relief to maintain agricultural tax status until sold. Of these, 2,800 properties were subsequently exempted from tax status change. The same transition option will be available to the approximately 13,000 additional properties shifting to the agricultural category.
