Large amounts of rain cause water on the roads, which can pose a risk of hydroplaning. This happens when a road is so wet that a wedge of water forms between the tire and the road, causing the tire to lose traction. (Archive photo). Photo: Morten Rasmussen/Ritzau Scanpix
Tryg assists twice as many motorists due to winter weather
On a challenging winter day with strong winds and heavy precipitation near freezing temperatures, Tryg insurance has responded to 480 customer calls for assistance—up 85 percent from an average Monday in autumn and winter—due to motorists needing help with snow-related issues, jump starts, and towing. According to Mogens Olesen, manager of damages at Tryg, the number of tows increased significantly with the heavy snowfall. With continuously harsh weather expected, including possible black ice if temperatures drop below freezing, drivers are warned about the risk of aquaplaning and water on the roads. Tryg also issued over 75,000 alerts to homeowners in at-risk areas to prevent property damage from the impending storm.
