Regions reject need for more nurse jobs for foreigners

Karin Friis Bach, Health Committee Chair at Danske Regioner, states there is no need for additional evaluation positions for foreign nurses at Danish hospitals. Despite Denmark inviting nurses from abroad, around 40 have returned home since 2021 due to expiring permits and lack of evaluation positions necessary for Danish authorization, media Jyllands-Posten report. To the media Health Minister Sophie Løhde expresses surprise at the lack of hiring, contrasting earlier claims of nursing shortages. Bach cites the current surplus of foreign nurses as a possible communication issue and plans to investigate ensuring a match between the influx of foreign nurses and Denmark’s actual requirements. About 1750 nurses, mainly from outside the EU/EEA, received residence permits since 2021, but only 310 obtained evaluation positions.
