Denmark revises child population forecast downwards

According to a new projection by Statistics Denmark reported by Politiken, 94 out of 98 municipalities are expecting fewer children aged 0-6 in 2035 than previously estimated, with about half of the municipalities projecting over 10% fewer children. Dragør anticipates a 21% decrease, and Skanderborg expects an 18% reduction, impacting the planning and construction of new childcare institutions. Copenhagen faces the largest numerical drop with 8,120 fewer children than expected. This trend follows a June report by Statistics Denmark indicating a significant decline in the birth rate, leading to a delayed population milestone of six million until 2028. Additionally, the proportion of citizens aged 80 and over is set to double from 5% in 2024 to 10% by 2047, which will eventually result in a smaller workforce.
