Danish PM unfazed by F-16 strike backlash
Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen of Denmark says Ukraine can use Western weapons like the F-16 jets donated by Denmark against military objectives in Russia if it abides by international law. This statement was made at a NATO summit where Ukraine’s President Zelenskyj asked for fewer restrictions on Western-provided weapons. Denmark has contributed 19 F-16s to Ukraine for self-defense within the framework of international law, which prohibits targeting civilians. Frederiksen is not concerned about escalating the conflict or potential Russian retribution. Despite reports of Russia plotting against European figures backing Ukraine, Frederiksen asserts that supporting Ukraine is a defense of the transatlantic alliance and should be understood as part of Europe’s response to modern warfare.
