Danish Parliament approves new veteran home in Slagelse
The Danish Parliament has approved the creation of a new veteran home in Slagelse to serve as a haven for veterans and their relatives. Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen (V) announced that this sixth home will give veterans in Zealand outside of Copenhagen access to support and activities from the Fonden Danske Veteranhjem. The initiative follows the establishment of veteran homes in Fredericia, Odense, Aarhus, Aalborg, and Copenhagen since 2010. The current budget allocates five million kroner for the new establishment, with an existing annual subsidy of six million kroner for the five homes currently in operation. These homes have hosted over 10,000 visitors and provided more than 500 free overnight stays this year. Both the chairman of the Fonden Danske Veteranhjem, Morten Wind Lindegaard, and Slagelse Mayor Knud Vincents have expressed their commitment to supporting the project.
