Study reveals post-covid fatigue less common

A large study by Denmark’s Statens Serum Institut (SSI) indicates long-lasting exhaustion from COVID-19 is less widespread than previously believed. The comparative study, spearheaded by SSI’s Head of Department Professor Anders Hviid, had 25,000 previously COVID-infected individuals and an equal number of uninfected individuals answer questions related to exhaustion symptoms, resulting in similar exhaustion scores between both groups. However, noticeable differences were found in those hospitalized during infection and in those infected early in the pandemic before vaccines were available. While the general trend does not show a significant increase in prolonged exhaustion among the infected, Hviid acknowledges that some may suffer from severe, debilitating fatigue. This Danish finding contrasts with American studies that have reported long-term exhaustion following covid-19 infection.
