Russian detainee charged with explosives possession
A Russian man in Danish custody for six months, originally detained over a threat against Billund Airport, has now been charged with possessing explosives and disrupting infrastructure, along with a serious theft charge. His continued detention was extended by four weeks at a Kolding court hearing where these charges were revealed by his defense attorney, Mads Kjær Jensen. The 37-year-old had surrendered an item to the airport police on April 20, claiming it contained explosives, leading to the airport’s evacuation and affecting 10,000 people’s travel plans. Investigations into the explosive TATP, referred to as ‘Satan’s mother’ by the police, are ongoing. The incident is linked to an ATM explosion near Legoland. During the hearing, the accused, who read a prepared statement, expressed his unwillingness to return to Russia where he feels his life is at risk and mentioned seeking asylum in Finland.
