Greenlandic politician wants Danish out of parliament
Greenlandic politician Pele Broberg from the Naleraq party advocates for the exclusive use of Greenlandic in the local parliament, Inatsisartut, according to Greenlandic media Sermitsiaq. Broberg urges the abandonment of Danish accommodating practices at the expense of locals, aligning with the self-referential practices of other nations within the Danish Realm. He proposes that all parliamentary administration, including the drafting of bills and official inquiries, should be conducted in Greenlandic. He believes this would not only hold symbolic value but also result with economic savings, promoting equality within Greenland. The role of the Greenlandic language in the political realm of the Danish Realm has been debated in the Danish Folketing, where, after a case last year, it was decided members from Greenland and the Faroe Islands could speak in their mother tongue if they provide their own translations afterwards, with additional allocated time and a financial supplement for translation.
