SpaceX launches satellite to improve weather predictions
SpaceX has launched a prototype satellite that could enhance weather forecasting for Denmark and beyond, especially in monitoring conditions in Greenland and the Arctic. Developed in collaboration with the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI), it will provide essential data on atmospheric temperatures and humidity. This initiative, valuable for the reliability of forecast models, will eventually include a constellation of six satellites aiming to sharpen monitoring of weather development and assist in tracking phenomena like storm depressions. The satellite is relatively small, roughly the size of a washing machine, and was funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) with a budget estimated at 42 million euros. This project opens opportunities for the Nordic region to contribute expertise in smaller satellites within the industry.
