Denmark competes for artillery production

Danammo, a Danish consortium, and Nammo, a Norwegian-Finnish company, are in contention to produce artillery in Elling, Nordjylland. The Materiel- and Procurement Agency, under Denmark’s Ministry of Defense, is handling the process amidst a Europe-wide artillery shortage and surging prices. Bids also include small arms ammunition production, with Ama Group participating. The agreement is expected in early 2025. Nammo, a major Nordic ammunition producer, could spread its production across Scandinavia. Danammo is newer and stresses Danish production, partnering with Czech-based CSG. The Elling munitions factory, dating back to 1954 and previously sold in 2008, closed in 2020. Denmark reacquired it in 2023 due to Russia’s war on Ukraine, facing a renovation cost of 200 million kroner before reopening.
