Wettest Roskilde Festival in 17 years
This year’s Roskilde Festival experienced the highest rainfall in 17 years, accumulating to 65.8 millimeters over the week, as reported by the Danish Meteorological Institute. The most intense downpour occurred on June 30th, with 35.2 millimeters of rain, accounting for more than half of the week’s total. According to DMI climatologist Thomas Askjær, this was due to powerful winds and showers across the country. In contrast, in 2018 and 2005, the festival observed no rainfall. The highest amount since 2007 was in 2011 and 2017, with just over 28 millimeters each. Askjær attributes the severe weather to climate change, with a risk of more extreme systems. No cloudbursts were reported at the festival, as the highest 30-min rainfall was a little over 10 millimeters. Weather warnings were issued during the festival, signaling possible heavy rain.
