Scammers target elderly using phone books

Tele-scammers are targeting elderly people by searching their names in online phone books. According to Midt- og Vestjyllands Police, two elderly women named Jette and Jytte, one in her 60s and the other in her 80s, reported being victims of fraud. The scam involved a fake security chief from Nordea bank named Jens Madsen, who claimed that 9,000 DKK had been transferred from the victim’s account to Spain. An accomplice attempted to collect their cards allegedly for security reasons. While one woman refused to hand over her card without proper identification, the other was deceived into providing her account details and PIN, leading to the theft of 17,000 DKK through cash machine withdrawals. The perpetrators drove a small turquoise car, and the police appeal to witnesses to contact them on the phone number 114.
