Hizb ut-Tahrir supporter gets 9 months
A Copenhagen court sentenced a 29-year-old Hizb ut-Tahrir member, Sam Mohabbat, to nine months in prison for endorsing terrorism. He was charged following a speech at a Copenhagen demonstration, where he commented on Hamas’ attacks on Israel, suggesting they revealed the occupying power’s weakness. The court emphasized the seriousness of his public statements. His sentence surpassed the six months given to influencer Ahmad Elchaabi in a related case. Though Mohabbat’s defense cited freedom of speech, the prosecutor deemed his remarks as praise for the attack. Mohabbat denied glorifying Hamas, arguing Israel’s illegitimacy and denied the group’s role in freeing Palestine. Mohabbat appealed the verdict immediately.
