Culture minister calls for music industry ethics code

Denmark’s Culture Minister Jakob Engel-Schmidt advocates for an ethics code in the music industry to combat sexism and encourage equal opportunities for women after viewing a documentary exposing sexism in the sector. The documentary included testimonies from 13 individuals addressing sexism, including experiences of inappropriate behavior. Although specifics about the code are undefined, non-compliance could result in exclusion from the industry. The documentary leads to scrutiny of both institutions and individuals, with Martin Brygmann identifying himself as being part of the content. Last year, Engel-Schmidt introduced a 224 million kroner music plan promoting gender balance, compelling venues to publicize booking statistics by gender. After DR’s broadcast, TV 2 evaluates their response to sexist remarks on ‘Toppen af Poppen.’ Ligestillingsminister Marie Bjerre will meet with the documentary’s contributors for further discussion.
