University of Copenhagen halts talks with protesting students

The University of Copenhagen has suspended dialogue with the pro-Palestinian organization Students Against Occupation following a demonstration on Friday morning. The university announced this on social media platform X. Protesters blocked entrances to the university buildings at Frue Plads, with around 36 students protesting against the university management. Lukas Rigillo, a student protester, expressed frustration over the university management’s backtracking on previously promising discussions. Ingrid Larsen, press officer for the Students Against Occupation, was surprised by the university’s decision, noting the blockade was carried out by independent activists, not the collective. The group demands the university to recognize and condemn the ongoing ‘genocide.’ Minister for Higher Education and Science Christina Egelund supports the university’s apolitical stance, stating that non-compliance disrupts dialogue.
